Dating app Hinge has introduced a new voice note feature called Voice Prompts that will let the users add their voice notes on their profiles. Voice Prompts will allow the users to add answers to the “Getting To Know You” prompts on their profile through a 30-seconds long voice note that users on the app will be able to hear once they visit your profile.

According to Hinge, this new feature will be rolled out globally to all the users and it will give the people the option to hear how the other person sounds like which might give them an idea about how their first date would be like with that person.

Hinge also added that about two-thirds of the users believe that hearing the voice of your potential date before actually meeting them in person would help to determine interest in a match and more than 75% of the users on the platform believe that it is difficult to determine interest in a match if the conversation is limited to just text and photos only so, in that regards, voice prompts and voice notes help a lot.

Hinge’s rivals like Happn and Bumble have already added the voice note feature in their apps and it was only a matter of time that Hinge caught up with them. This is a very helpful addition to the app since the sound of someone’s voice can be an important thing in determining your interest and listening to someone’s voice can make it easier for users to judge that how someone’s personality.

Hinge’s Chief Product Officer Michelle Parsons said in a Press Release that:

“Hinge wants to help people get to know you as soon as they see your profile. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, imagine how many your voice is. With the introduction of Voice Prompts, we’re adding more authenticity to the profile experience, allowing users to fully display their personality in a new way.”

This feature is available in the latest version of the app and if the users want then they can add a voice prompt to their profile to answer a Getting To Know You prompt. Just head over to Settings > Edit Profile > Voice Prompt. Once you have chosen a prompt and you can start recording a Voice Prompt for up to 30 seconds. Once you are done with the answer, you can hit the stop button. Before you can add it to the profile, you get the option to listen to it. If you are happy with your answer then you can hit done and add it to your profile.

Along with this new Voice Prompt feature, Hinge has also added the Voice Notes feature for chats and conversations that will allow the users to send and receive voice notes while chatting with each other, which will help them to catch a glimpse of each other’s personality.

Keep in mind that voice notes can be sent to only those people that you have matched with and instead of 30-seconds long prompts, they can be up to five minutes long but don’t try to be creepy. To record a voice note, just hit the microphone icon next to the message to start recording and once you’re done, hit the stop button. Just like Voice Prompts, you get to hear your voice note before you send it.

Both these features, Voice Prompt and Voice Notes will be a good addition to an already excellent app and will allow people to showcase their personality through voice and get to know about others personalities. Plus, a person is able to convey his/her message and express him/herself in a better way through voice notes.

As mentioned, Hinge is not the first app that introduced voice features to its app, rather there are other apps available that have already made voice note features available for their users. Along with that, there is another new dating app called String that lets users communicate with each other only through voice notes.
